Can Misfits Survive Without Nathan?

I return after a little break (sorry, I know you missed me!) with some sad, sad news. Misfits has already jumped the shark.

After months of online debate, the horrible rumours have been revealed to be true. Robert Sheehan aka Nathan aka what we look forward to every week, has officially left Misfits.

The 23-year-old is leaving the show to concentrate on his film career, which has gone from strength to strength with roles in Cherrybomb with Rupert Grint and Season Of The Witch with Nicholas Cage.  He can currently be seen in the Irish comedy Killing Bono. His next role will be the lead in Romeo and Gertrude, an American-set comic version of the Shakespeare tale, written and directed by British comedian David Baddiel.

The news was announced by Misfits executive producer Petra Fried at the Kapow Comic Convention in London on Sunday. Nathan, who has been a character on the supernatural show since it began in 2009, will be replaced with a new character, Rudy, when the series returns for its third series later this year.

The casting for Rudy is still on-going. I almost feel sorry for whoever eventually gets the part as they will have to compete with Sheehan's hilarious and popular performance on the show. Rudy's arrival will be explained in online episodes on the E4 website before series three starts.

Misfits is scheduled to return to E4 in November. Can the BAFTA winning show keep the 1.5 million viewers it regularly attracted with its second series?
